Sometimes as plein air painters, finding the perfect spot or lighting doesnt perfectly align with temproal circumstances like tides, fogbanks, rain storms etc.. After finding the desired angle on a winter's day on Santa Barbara's beaches, a cold wind picked up, the tide came in quickly, and stranded me in a tiny cove between two cliffs. I remained steadfast, finished the study, and walked back to the cliff stairs, knee deep in ocean.

This piece was painted on location, en plein air, and touched up in the studio.

This is an UNFRAMED 9x12, oil on mounted belgian linen.
