This is a plein air piece, painted on location at Hendry's beach in sunny Santa Barbara. 
It was painted in winter, so the breezes were whipping the surf and the foliage.
I tried to keep the edges rough and the brush strokes small to preserve that feel of a cold wind.
Cooler colors in the sky add to the chilly feel and compliment the warms of the beach and shoreline bluffs.
