This painting began as a plein air excursion to a popular beach in the Santa Barbara area - Goleta Slough.
A low tide slung along a wide, wet beach made for still and clear reflections of the scene.
When the sunset began and the warm light turned the leaves reddish and the clouds pink, I knew this scene would be memorable.
Sadly, the plein air effort did not come together. This painting is the stylized finished product after the original underwent serious revision in the studio.
