Toward the end of a bright day on 17-mile Drive in Carmel by the Sea, and feeling there were too many tourists to enjoy it for what it was, I found myself hopping the fence and climbing down the rocks to enjoy this vista in solitude.
 
The frame is a hand-made, cast-plaster mold of a traditional frame. I shaped it by hand, stained it, and gilt it with genuine 24k gold leaf. It is imperfect and unique and is as much a part of the art as the painting.
